Have a 'Kita Kata Adventure'

This story, from the Inquirer.net tells the story of a Filipiono tour guide and a down out Filipino man falling in love.
It apparently is hugely popular in the Phillipines. (is there any one who can confirm this?)
Two things interested me about this story.

1. It is great to see the beauty of Hokkaido being touted around the world, and Japanese culture being appreciated.

2. Second, why the country is spelt Phillipines, with a Ph, but the people is spelt with an F. Maybe it is because the word for the people is Tagalog (the Filipino langauge). Any ideas?
